Master your staff costs (Net, Gross, and Employer cost)
At Shyfter, we understand the importance of accurately managing your staff costs. That’s why we’ve redesigned our cost calculation approach, giving you the option to choose between gross cost, net cost, and employer cost. This update provides you with a clearer picture of your expenses and helps you optimize your budget.
How to Configure the Actual Cost Calculation?
Access the settings: Go to your Shyfter account settings (gear icon) → HR → Settings.
Choose your calculation base: In the "Staff Cost Calculation Base" section, select the option that best suits your needs: "net cost," "gross cost," or "employer cost."

Different Calculation Bases
Gross cost: This is the base value, which you can enter in each staff member’s profile. If you know the net cost of your staff, you can also add it.
Net cost: The net salary is what the staff member actually receives after payroll deductions.
Employer cost (Company cost): This includes all expenses related to employing a staff member, such as employer contributions, taxes, withholding tax, etc. Since it is often difficult to calculate precisely, we use multiplier coefficients based on the gross salary.
How to calculate employer cost?
Since employer cost is complex to determine accurately, we recommend following these steps:
Consult your payroll provider: Contact your accountant, payroll office, or social secretariat to obtain the applicable multiplier coefficient for your staff (students, temporary workers, etc.).
Calculate the coefficient yourself: You can attempt to calculate this coefficient manually by adding all employer charges and applying a proportional rule.
Configure user statuses:
Once you have the coefficient:
Go to Settings → General → User status.
Select a status and enter the corresponding "employer coefficient."

Viewing actual costs:
Once configured, calculations will be performed automatically in Shyfter. You’ll be able to view the accurate cost of your staff across all areas of the application:
Dashboard
Schedules
Reports
Etc.

Benefits of This Feature
Increased accuracy: Get a clearer picture of your staff costs.
Better budget management: Optimize your budget by considering actual costs.
In-depth analysis: Perform more detailed analyses with reliable data.
Improved productivity: Make informed decisions to optimize your human resource allocation.
